The Commission on Large Igneous Provinces of the IAVCEI (International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior), member of the IUGG (International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics), and the organizers welcome applications for travel funding for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and researchers from a low-income or middle-income country who wish to present their work in-person at the Large Igneous Province – Dyke Swarm Conference 9 (LIP-IDC 2026) to be held at Nyeri, Kenya on August 3-7, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a travel bursary from IAVCEI or IUGG, an applicant must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Meet the ECR IAVCEI definition: applicants who have obtained their last most relevant degree (BSc, MSc, PhD) no more than 8 years ago (please describe the nature of any career breaks) or be from a low-income or middle-income country according to the classification of The World Bank.
  • Must be a member of IAVCEI at the time of submission (IAVCEI membership number required) to be eligible for IAVCEI funding
  • Submit an abstract for a poster/oral in-person presentation to the conference within the established deadlines - a draft copy of this abstract should be added to the bursary application
  • Not previously have been awarded an IAVCEI or IUGG student/ECR travel bursary
  • Grants are non-transferable. Awardees unable to use the award for the purpose set out in their application must relinquish it.
  • Submit a 200-word motivation letter related to the conference attendance (at the end of this form)
  • Submit a 250-word draft abstract to be submitted to the conference (at the end of this form)
  • If ECR, include a 200-word supporting statement from their supervisor or PI (at the end of this form)
  • Applications must be submitted electronically to lipidc9@sciencesconf.org and be received by the deadline of 23.59 hrs GMT on Monday March 16th, 2026.

Upon accepting an IAVCEI or IUGG travel bursary, successful applicants must agree to the following:

  • Bursaries will not typically be paid in advance (N.B. only in exceptional cases will monies be released early via approval from IAVCEI, and on submission of appropriate receipts).
  • The IAVCEI and IUGGlogo must be visible on the presentation to indicate our support of your wor
